Once again, the ticking clock had everyone on edge – including those of us watching at home! The Blue Team decided on a tricky menagerie of quail, ostrich and poached chicken breasts. The delicate quail posed the greatest challenge. As Reuben explains, wild quail can have quite a livery taste and this is not suitable for everyone’s palate. On the other hand, he is especially fond of game birds because of the fact that they have such a rich flavour – reminiscent of fresh air, big fires and bold red wines.
The Red Team decided on Asian-style sweet pork, which also came with its fair share of cooking challenges. The overall feeling was that it needed to be cooked a while longer. However, they did manage to present a dessert at the end, which was not part of the challenge, but seemed to go down very well with the Nederburg employees.
In the end it was the Blue Team who had to do the Pressure Test. Surprisingly enough, only three team members were nominated. Manisha, Berdina and Mmutsi had to rise to the challenge to stay in the game. Unfortunately, undercooked lamb meant the end of Berdina’s MasterChef journey. It’s always sad to see someone leave, but it means we are one week closer to meeting South Africa’s esteemed MasterChef!
